Machine / Bobbin Problems

Bobbin thread breaking

Check the symptom, then work through the fixes in order.

What you may see

  • The lower thread breaks repeatedly, leaving incomplete stitches or triggering a bobbin-thread warning.
  • Short or frayed bobbin-thread ends may be visible beneath the hoop.

Likely causes

  • The bobbin is poorly wound, damaged, incorrectly inserted or unsuitable for the machine.
  • Lint or a stray thread is interfering with the bobbin path.
  • The bobbin case has an accessible burr or is not seated correctly.
  • Upper-thread balance, a damaged needle or dense stitching is overloading the lower thread.

Try this

  1. 1Replace the bobbin with a correctly wound, known-good embroidery bobbin.
  2. 2Reinstall it in the correct direction and follow every bobbin guide.
  3. 3Remove obvious lint and stray thread according to the machine manual.
  4. 4Replace the needle and rethread the upper path.
  5. 5Reduce speed and test on scrap fabric.
  6. 6If multiple good bobbins keep breaking, stop adjusting the bobbin case and arrange professional service.

Prevention tips

  • Use bobbins that meet the machine maker’s size and winding requirements.
  • Discard cracked, warped or poorly wound bobbins.
  • Keep the accessible bobbin area clean without over-oiling.
