Stitch Quality

Satin stitches pulling apart or looking loose

Check the symptom, then work through the fixes in order.

What you may see

  • Satin columns separate down the centre, expose fabric or look slack at their edges.
  • Letters may appear narrow, uneven or poorly covered.

Likely causes

  • Fabric movement or insufficient stabilisation is pulling the column apart.
  • Underlay, pull compensation or stitch density is unsuitable.
  • The satin column is too wide for reliable stitching.
  • Thread tension is imbalanced.
  • The design was resized significantly without recalculating stitches.

Try this

  1. 1Confirm the fabric and stabiliser are secure and not stretched.
  2. 2Rethread the machine and test with a fresh needle.
  3. 3Return a resized design to its original dimensions and test again.
  4. 4Reduce speed, especially on wide columns or small lettering.
  5. 5Use a design with suitable underlay and pull compensation for the fabric.
  6. 6Convert very wide satin areas to an appropriate fill stitch during proper digitising.

Prevention tips

  • Use stabilisation that controls movement for the life of the design.
  • Avoid stretching satin-column designs beyond their intended size.
  • Test small lettering and wide columns at actual production size.
