Hooping & Registration

Outline not lining up / registration drifting

Check the symptom, then work through the fixes in order.

What you may see

  • Outlines sit away from fills or later colour blocks do not align with earlier ones.
  • The amount or direction of misalignment may increase through the design.

Likely causes

  • Fabric is slipping, stretching or bouncing in the hoop.
  • Stabilisation is insufficient for the fabric and stitch count.
  • The hoop is loose, incorrectly attached or being obstructed.
  • Machine speed and design density are increasing push and pull.
  • The design was poorly digitised or persistent errors indicate mechanical play.

Try this

  1. 1Check that the hoop is locked onto the machine and nothing is blocking its travel.
  2. 2Inspect the fabric and stabiliser for movement or looseness.
  3. 3Rehoop and test using adequate stabilisation and basting where useful.
  4. 4Support the item and reduce embroidery speed.
  5. 5Test a known-good design to distinguish setup from design digitising.
  6. 6Arrange professional servicing if registration drifts consistently across well-hooped test designs.

Prevention tips

  • Secure fabric and stabiliser together without stretching.
  • Support heavy items and keep the full hoop path clear.
  • Use designs digitised and tested for the target fabric.
