Machine / Bobbin Problems

Frequent thread jams

Check the symptom, then work through the fixes in order.

What you may see

  • Thread locks around the bobbin area, the handwheel becomes difficult to move or the machine stops abruptly.
  • A jam may pull fabric toward the needle plate or leave a dense knot underneath.

Likely causes

  • Upper threading or bobbin insertion is incorrect.
  • A thread nest, broken needle fragment or stray thread remains in the accessible bobbin area.
  • The needle is damaged or the thread is catching on the spool.
  • The design contains extremely dense or repeated stitches.
  • Persistent mechanical resistance may indicate a hook, timing or service problem.

Try this

  1. 1Stop the machine and switch it off before attempting to clear the jam.
  2. 2Remove the hoop and trapped thread gently; do not force the handwheel or pull the fabric.
  3. 3Remove accessible loose thread and check for a broken needle fragment.
  4. 4Rethread the upper path, reinstall the bobbin and fit a fresh needle.
  5. 5Test a simple known-good design at reduced speed.
  6. 6Arrange professional service if the machine remains stiff, noisy or repeatedly jams.

Prevention tips

  • Clear every thread nest completely before restarting.
  • Use correct threading, clean bobbins and fresh needles.
  • Avoid forcing the machine through dense or obstructed areas.
