Needle Problems

Needle breaking or bending

Check the symptom, then work through the fixes in order.

What you may see

  • The needle bends, strikes the needle plate or breaks during embroidery.
  • The machine may make a sharp impact sound immediately before stopping.

Likely causes

  • The needle is damaged, incorrectly inserted or too fine for the fabric stack.
  • The hoop, presser foot or a bulky seam is obstructing the needle path.
  • Fabric is being pulled, pushed or dragged while the needle is down.
  • The design is excessively dense or the speed is too high for the material.
  • Persistent strikes may indicate hoop attachment, needle-bar or timing problems.

Try this

  1. 1Stop the machine, switch it off and account for all visible pieces of the broken needle.
  2. 2Remove the hoop carefully and check the embroidery area for an obstruction or bulky seam.
  3. 3Install a fresh, suitable needle fully and in the correct orientation.
  4. 4Turn the handwheel only as directed by the machine manual to check basic clearance before restarting.
  5. 5Support the item without pulling it and reduce embroidery speed.
  6. 6Do not continue if the needle still strikes; arrange professional servicing.

Prevention tips

  • Replace bent, blunt or struck needles immediately.
  • Preview the design boundary and keep hardware and thick seams out of the needle path.
  • Never pull the fabric or hoop while the machine is stitching.
