Stitches sinking into towels or pile

Check the symptom, then work through the fixes in order.

What you may see

  • Embroidery looks buried, uneven or partly hidden by towel loops, fleece or plush fibres.
  • Fine lettering and details may disappear into the surface.

Likely causes

  • No water-soluble topper was used over the textured surface.
  • The design is too fine, narrow or open for the pile height.
  • Stitch density or underlay does not hold the fibres down.
  • The backing is too light to support the fabric and design.

Try this

  1. 1Place water-soluble film topper over the embroidery area.
  2. 2Use adequate backing beneath the fabric and secure the full stack.
  3. 3Choose a bolder design with wider satin columns and fewer tiny details.
  4. 4Use a suitable underlay or knockdown stitch where the design requires it.
  5. 5Test lettering at its actual size before stitching the final item.
  6. 6Remove topper only after stitching, following its instructions.

Prevention tips

  • Plan on using topper for towels, fleece, velvet and other raised surfaces.
  • Select designs digitised specifically for pile fabrics.
  • Avoid very small lettering on deep or irregular textures.
