Fabric & Stabilisation

Fabric shifting during embroidery

Check the symptom, then work through the fixes in order.

What you may see

  • The fabric moves relative to the stabiliser or hoop while the design is stitching.
  • Later colour blocks, outlines or fills no longer align with earlier stitching.

Likely causes

  • The hoop is not tightened evenly or the fabric was not secured with the stabiliser.
  • Stabilisation is insufficient for the fabric or design.
  • A hard-to-hoop item was floated without enough temporary hold.
  • The design is dense or the machine speed is pulling the material.
  • The weight of the item is dragging against the hoop.

Try this

  1. 1Stop and check that the hoop is still attached and locked correctly.
  2. 2Rehoop the fabric and stabiliser together where practical, keeping the fabric relaxed and secure.
  3. 3Use suitable temporary adhesive, basting or sticky stabiliser for a correctly floated item.
  4. 4Support bulky or heavy fabric so it moves freely with the hoop.
  5. 5Reduce speed and test with stronger stabilisation.
  6. 6Restart from a clean test rather than attempting to force badly shifted stitching back into alignment.

Prevention tips

  • Hoop fabric and stabiliser as one stable unit whenever possible.
  • Use basting or approved temporary hold for floated items.
  • Keep the embroidery area clear so the item cannot catch on the machine.
